This can be done by copying, downloading, sharing, selling, or installing multiple copies onto personal or work computers. It is illegal, increases security risks and results in economic harm such as loss of jobs and tax revenue.

If I report software piracy to the BSA,
will my name be kept confidential?

Your name will never be revealed outside of BSA | The Software Alliance unless required by law. We take all appropriate measures to ensure your confidentiality and the confidentiality of your case at all times.

What happens after I file a report of illegal software use?

The process is simple. Just fill out this confidential three step piracy reporting form with as much information as you can recall and submit it to BSA. Our in-house investigative team will follow up with you as appropriate and begin their investigation of the target company. Based on your information and our investigation, BSA will then pursue the action that we feel is warranted.

What is the progress of my piracy report?

To learn the progress of your report, we ask that you please call our piracy hotline at 1-888-NO-PIRACY. A BSA | The Software Alliance team member will provide you with the latest information. Please note that the investigative process is very thorough and can take several months for significant developments.

How do you calculate rewards for reporting illegal use of software?

A reward may be payable only if BSA pursues an investigation and, as a direct result of the information provided by you, receives a monetary settlement from the reported organization. The amount you may receive is based on a sliding scale as outlined in the Terms and Conditions available on the BSA website.

When will I receive my reward for reporting pirated software?

A reward will be paid only if BSA pursues an investigation and, as a direct result of the information provided by you, receives a monetary settlement from the reported organization. This process could take several months. If the reward requirements have been met, then BSA will consider you for a reward payment.
