Under the laws of many countries we are required to verify the information you have provided before legal action can be taken against the company you have reported.



Software piracy is the unauthorized copying or distribution of copyrighted software.

This can be done by copying, downloading, sharing, selling, or installing multiple copies onto personal or work computers. It is illegal, increases security risks and results in economic harm such as loss of jobs and tax revenue.

If I report software piracy to the BSA,
will my name be kept confidential?

Your name will never be revealed outside of BSA | The Software Alliance unless required by law. We take all appropriate measures to ensure your confidentiality and the confidentiality of your case at all times.

What happens after I file a report of illegal software use?

The process is simple. Just fill out this confidential three step piracy reporting form with as much information as you can recall and submit it to BSA. Our in-house investigative team will follow up with you as appropriate and begin their investigation of the target company. Based on your information and our investigation, BSA will then pursue the action that we feel is warranted.

What is the progress of my piracy report?

To learn the progress of your report, we ask that you please call our piracy hotline at 02 714 1010 A BSA | The Software Alliance team member will provide you with the latest information. Please note that the investigative process is very thorough and can take several months for significant developments.

How does BSA calculate rewards payable to informants for reporting the illegal use of software in the workplace?

The amount you receive will depend on whether a case has been successfully settled and the settlement monies paid by the company you reported. BSA retains full rights on deciding on the amount of reward. As a loose guide, rewards are based on the amount of assistance you provided in the case and a percentage of the monies paid by the company you reported. This is usually between 3% and up to 10% of the amount paid.

When will I receive my reward for reporting pirated software?

A reward will be paid only if BSA pursues an investigation and, as a direct result of the information provided by you, receives a monetary settlement from the reported organization. This process could take several months. If the reward requirements have been met, then BSA will consider you for a reward payment. How can I confirm that you’ve received my software piracy report?

You will receive an email reply from BSA soon after submitting your anti-piracy report. In addition, a BSA team member may reach out to you over the next 72 hours if we have any further questions regarding the information provided within your report.
